Is this the right job for me?

Is this the right job for me?

A staggering almost three out of four new hires regret accepting job offers, according to LinkedIn News.

It’s so important to understand the full scope of the job and ask the right questions before you could later regret it.

Here are the questions to ask to make sure it doesn’t happen to you.

Ask about work culture

This is so important, as this is where you will be spending a lot of time. Do make sure this aligns with your needs for example:

  • What is their approach to charity?
  • Dress code, is it relaxed or corporate?
  • How would I be typically managed?
  • What are my co-workers like?

Why is the position open?

If the previous person is no longer with the company, feel confident to ask why, it’s not always negative. Perhaps the person is still with the company and has been promoted, or decided to retrain and do something completely different, or maybe retired, as an example.

What is the work/life balance here?

Ask about flexibility if this is important to you, to ensure the company offers this.

  • What does a typical day look like?
  • What is the company policy on remote working?

What is the long-term career growth?

If progression and opportunity is important to you do ask:

  • How the company
  • What are their thoughts on professional development?

"Karen was phenomenal. So quick to pass over information and extremely encouraging at every step. Got the role that I was put forward for at first application, and Karen was so on the ball you could not find any better treatment. Could not recommend the company more if every interaction would be at the level that Karen provided."
